Custom rubber manufacturing: made-to-measure profile/seal
No matter how wide the range of ready-made products on the market is, standard sizes are not enough for many projects. In such cases, custom rubber manufacturing — the production of made-to-measure profiles, seals and parts based on a drawing, sample or technical requirements — is the only correct solution.
When is custom manufacturing needed?
- A spare part for old equipment is no longer on sale.
- The project has specific size or shape requirements.
- The durability of the standard material does not match the application environment.
- A special profile is required for a high-volume series.
The stages of custom manufacturing
1. Defining the technical requirements
The first step is to clarify the size of the part, the working environment (temperature, pressure, chemical exposure) and the required hardness. At this stage, a sample or drawing is very helpful. For choosing the hardness, our article on Shore hardness is useful.
2. Material selection
Depending on the working conditions, the right rubber is selected: EPDM for outdoors and ozone, NBR for oil-and-fuel environments. Then the optimal rubber compound is prepared.
3. Mold or die preparation
A die (for extrusion) or a mold (for molding) is made to match the shape of the part. This is the most important engineering stage of custom manufacturing.
4. Selecting the production method
Depending on the shape of the part, the appropriate method is applied: extrusion for long profiles, injection for complex parts, and compression molding for large and simple parts.
5. Testing and quality control
The finished part is checked in our own laboratory — the dimensions, hardness and mechanical properties are verified. You can read about this process in our article on laboratory tests.
The advantages of NUR KAUÇUK
Thanks to our own extrusion and molding lines, in-house laboratory and experienced engineering team, we carry out all stages from sample to series production under one roof. This approach saves the customer time and provides full control over quality. You can get acquainted with our capabilities in the manufacturing and catalog sections.
