Storage of rubber products and service life — NUR KAUÇUK MMC

Even a high-quality rubber product can lose its properties before use if stored incorrectly. Proper storage conditions extend the shelf life and prevent unexpected failures in service. In this article we explain how rubber and EPDM products should be stored and how to extend their service life.

Factors that age rubber during storage

Ideal warehouse conditions

Temperature and humidity

It is recommended to store rubber products in a cool, dry place — ideally between approximately +5 °C and +25 °C. They should be kept away from heat sources and radiators.

Protection from light

Products should be stored in a dark or covered place, protected from direct sunlight and strong artificial light. Although UV- and ozone-resistant EPDM is chosen for outdoor use, all materials should be protected during storage.

Correct position

Seals and profiles should be stored in a stress-free, relaxed state and not crushed under heavy loads. Rings should be laid without twisting, in their natural shape.

Differences by material type

Although EPDM is superior in terms of outdoor exposure and ageing, NBR products that come into contact with oil should be stored separately from oil sources. For high-temperature applications, silicone products have their own storage characteristics. When deciding on material selection, also take future storage conditions into account.
