Facade seals: a selection guide for aluminum and glass facades
The performance of modern aluminum and glass facades depends largely on the sealing systems used. A correctly chosen facade seal keeps water, wind and dust out, reduces heat loss and extends the lifespan of the structure.
What functions does a facade seal perform?
- Water and air tightness — prevents rainwater and air flow from entering;
- Energy efficiency — reduces thermal bridges, thereby lowering heating/cooling costs;
- Sound insulation — attenuates external noise;
- Glass protection — creates an elastic cushion between the glass unit and the profile.
Why EPDM?
A facade is always outdoors — under the influence of sunlight, ozone and temperature changes. That is precisely why EPDM rubber is the standard material for facade seals: it is resistant to UV and ozone and does not lose its flexibility for decades.
What to consider when choosing a seal?
- An exact fit to the cross-section of the profile system (the aluminum cassette);
- The right hardness — a seal that is too hard does not seal, while one that is too soft deforms;
- Preparation of corner joints by vulcanization (the point where water leakage most often occurs);
- Color and surface quality (aesthetics on visible facades).
NUR KAUÇUK MMC manufactures EPDM profiles for aluminum and glass facade systems using the extrusion method, in the cross-section suited to the project. Take a look at our facade products or write to us for a made-to-measure solution.
