What is EPDM rubber and where is it used?
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a type of synthetic rubber, known especially for its resistance to sunlight, ozone and temperature changes outdoors. For this very reason, it is the most widely chosen sealing material in construction, facade, door and window systems.
Key advantages of EPDM
- Weather resistance: unaffected for years by sunlight (UV), ozone and rain.
- Wide temperature range: retains its flexibility from approximately -40 °C to +120 °C.
- Water and vapor tightness: ideal for joints requiring a watertight seal.
- Long service life: when chosen correctly, it lasts for decades.
Where is EPDM used?
EPDM profiles and seals are widely applied in the following areas:
- Sealing gaskets for aluminum and glass facade systems;
- Door and window insulation profiles (prevent sound and heat loss);
- Roofing and waterproofing membranes;
- Seals in automotive and industrial equipment.
How to choose EPDM correctly?
For the right choice, the profile's cross-section, hardness (Shore A), operating temperature and the environment it contacts must be taken into account. As NUR KAUÇUK MMC, we prepare the EPDM compound according to the project's requirements and manufacture custom profiles using the extrusion method.
